October 6, 2011, Maui Thursday Part 2 The Road to Hana

It's still October 6th, 2011 and these are more photos I took on The Road to Hana Pleasant Holiday Tour.

This is a little tidbit that I remembered from the Hana Tour:

"African Tulip Trees -- Even from afar, you can see the flaming red flowers on these large trees, which can grow to be more than 50 feet tall. The buds hold water, and Hawaiian children use the flowers as water pistols."  Okay, so Larry told us that the kids do that because the water is stale in these flowers and it smells bad, so the locals call the flower the Horse Piss flower.  That's what he said.......

10-6-2011 Another comfort stop and a chance to buy banana bread and different jellies, I took pictures.

10-6-2011 This is a waterfall picture taken from inside the bus, sometimes because of the road, Larry could not stop and pull over to let us out.  Does show the seriousness of the tropical terrain here on the north side of Hana.

10-6-2011 About 11 am.

10-6-2011 This is an Hawaiian gentleman with his son.  Carol and I bought freshwater pearl jewelry that he made.  Not expensive at all.  He than came in to the bus and gave one of the ladys a necklace to promote the giving spirit of true Hawaii.
The fresh water pearl bracelet.

10-6-2011  A waterfall.  Sometimes there are more, sometimes very few, depending on the amount of rainfall in the mountains.

10-6-2011 Another stop, but I don't think we did.

10-6-2011 Almost noon and we are in Hana.

10-6-2011 Having the best tour guide in the world has it's benefits, Larry knew where to feed the Mongoose to get them to come out.  They are wild here.

10-6-2011 Mongoose are wild here, they were brought here to keep the population of rats down that came on the ships.  They didn't do it, the Mongoose sleep at night when the rats are awake.  They must have found anothe way, because we didn't see any rats and also there are no snakes on Maui....none.

10-6-2011 After lunch in Hana we got back on the bus and it started to rain.  We where a lucky bunch, we never got wet, when it rained, it was always after we got back on the bus!

10-6-2011 Another waterfall.
