October 8, 2011, Maui Saturday Marilyn's Home

Yes!
First morning to wake up here at 5:30 am, my normal get up time...of course that is Maui time, it would be 11:30 am back in Michigan.

We went to the Ocean Center in Ma'alaea, it is a 3 acre Marine Park.  It only has Hawaiian species of fish.
It was very well put together, educational, entertaining and the fish and coral were awesome.  Not so awesome, the parents that let the little ones run screaming and yelling in the actual aquarium, echo echo echo...

I liked the tank at the end best that was huge and had lots of sharks, nice hammerheads.  Adam would love them.

Carol liked best the tunnel or glass tube that the sea life swam all around us.  I just made sure I knew where the closest exit was..just in case.

Then we went to the golf course....no, not just any golf course, we when to the King Kamehameha Golf Course to see a huge building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for "supposedly" Marilyn Monroe.  She died before it was finished and never lived there.  It is now the club house.  It is a 2500 Honoapiilan Hwy., Waihiku, south of Lahaina.  And thanks to Larry for telling us about it.

10-8-2011 Nice golf course too.

10-8-2011 This is the only picture I got of an Umbrella tree...they were beautiful and all over actually.  I missed getting a picture of one of the huge ones..and I don't know how, I took 750 pictures...you'd have thought.....

10-8-2011 Beautiful setting.

10-8-2011 It was beautiful up here, no matter which direction you looked.  Very nice.

10-8-2011 The drive back down.

And then we drove to the Oriental Gardens "Valley of Iao, in Wallubu.  Very nice, I took lots of pictures.  It was really an experience just to be there by the mountain in the very lush tropical rain forest area.  (Lahaina is very dry).

10-8-2011 Of all the places on Maui, the Valley of Iao made me feel the most like I was in another country.  It is very awesome to be so close to the mountain.

After that, we went to the "Tropical Gardens of Maui".  I again took a ton of photos, even laid down two times to get photos of two tall palm trees...just for Carol.  This was in Wallubu, Maui, just down the road from the Oriental Gardens.  The photos of the Tropical Gardens of Maui will be in a separate post following this one.

Lunch at McDonalds...we were hungry and thirsty and it was the closest, familiar restaurant with a bathroom in Wallubu.

Went back to Lahaina and our lodging and spent the late afternoon cooling off in the pool, and lounging.

We spent the evening window shopping in Lahaina and had dinner at "Cool Cat".  It was good.

Great day!  I loved driving Little Blue Maui around the mountains and cliffs with the top down.
