October 12, 2011, Maui Wednesday

10-12-2011  7:12 am  The Island of Lanai.

10-12-2011  The Coast Guard ship is still here, but it will leave today.
We have decided to drive south and just look at the scenery.

It is a great drive out Hwy. 30 the Honoapilani Highway and continue on Hwy. 310 trying to stay as close to the coast as possible.

10-12-2011 Warning

10-12-2011  We noticed that most of the beaches had some trees for shade, at least somewhere near.

10-12-2011 Molokini Island. "Like a crescent moon fallen from the sky, the crater of Molokini sits almost midway between Maui and the uninhabited Island of Kahoolawe. On its concave side Molokini serves as a natural sanctuary for tropical fish."

10-12-2011 This was such a beautiful beach and to visit it on our last day in Maui was a bit bittersweet.

10-12-2011 My favorite photo taken by Carol.  This is so me in Maui.

We decided to eat lunch back at Leilani's at the Whalers Village Shopping Center (I really loved that sandwich, thanks Carol) with the view of Ka'anapali Beach.

Spent some time floating in the ocean on our rafts and lounging, then packed some, before we went into Lahaina for dinner at the Pioneer Inn, we had Fish and Chips and listened to the entertainment.  The Happy Hour crowd was still there having a good time.  Music was loud but good.

10-12-2011 The Hawaiian Island were on the outside wall by the front entrance to the Lahiana Shore Beach Resort in Maui.

"This Banyan Tree was first planted in April, 1873, and marked the 50th Anniversary of Christian missionary work in Lahaina. The tree was imported from India was only 8 feet tall. It now stands over 60 feet high, has 12 major trunks in addition to a huge core. It stretches over a 200-foot area and shades 2/3 of an acre."  It is supposed to be the 2nd largest in the world, the largest being in India. It is only ONE tree.
