October 6, 2011, Maui Thursday, Part 4, Road after Hana.

Okay, after Haleakala National Park we head to the Tedeschi Winery. They had wine tasting and a gift shop, nice restrooms and the grounds were very pretty.  They have wine that is made from pineapple, and the grape kind also.  The girls on the bus, were very anxious to get here before they closed.

This part of the Road to Hana has very rough narrow pavement, the places with no pavement is a lot smoother, and when Larry went around a corner he tooted first....but he didn't slow down.  It was a pretty interesting trip.

I liked the first part of the Hana road better than the South East side of Maui, the South East is very dry.
10-6-2011 Taken from inside the bus.

10-6-2011  Cattle, I can't remember the Hawaiian name for cattle, maybe Carol will.

10-6-2011 The cattle were very close to the road, and there were no fences.eeee

10-6-2011 The cattle eat in Maui, but they are taken to the USA to be processed and then returned as beef.  There are no beef processing plants in Maui.

10-6-2011 These are wild goats.

10-6-2011  I forgot what this is...help me Carol.

10-6-2011  Okay, Carol what where these called?  Wish Larry was here.

10-6-2011 This black beach area is from the lava flow.

10-6-2011  Another view of it.

10-6-2011 This is a flower at the Tedeschi Winery.

10-6-2011 The Jade Vine is a most unusual flowing vinethat grows primarily in the rain forest, but can be seen in local yards every where in Hawaii.

10-6-2011  A tree at the winery.  Ulupalakua is where the Tedeschi Winery is located.

10-6-2011 Old home with a lava chimney.

10-6-2011 Another huge tree.

After the winery, we headed home, on the way we spotted an Owl, a Pueo, it is a short eared owl.  It's name means "Protector" and it is endangered, there are supposed to be only 300 left in Hawaii.  It was a very rare sighting and we should have good luck because we saw him.  He was really pretty and was flying right along with us.  Larry was really excited, he knew what a rare treat it was.http://coffeetimes.com/mar98.htm

We got back to the Resort about 7:30 pm and then walked to Lahaina for dinner at Da Kitchen.

It was a good day.
