So, we woke up early....4 am Maui time.
I had heard of "Jet Lag" but honestly did not realize the effect it would have. Maui time is six hours earlier than Michigan time, and it takes some time to adjust.
Of course we both stood on the balcony anxiously waiting for daylight so we could see what we heard. The surf was washing against the shore all night, a beautiful sound. We began taking pictures just before 6 am. We were very pleased with our view, our room and our car.
We decided to walk around Lahaina and get an idea of what was there, even in the early hours, the shops were opening and the restaurants getting ready for their day.
We had a complimentary breakfast and Island Orientation in Kaanapali, our first daylight road trip in Little Blue Maui. This is when we discovered the beauty of the road we had taken from the airport to the resort.
The breakfast was good and the orientation was pretty entertaining, we purchased 3 different adventures with the Pleasant Holiday people, the first one for Thursday the 6th.
We stopped at Safeway on our way back to Lahaina to stock up on survival previsions....water, bread, peanut butter and granola bars. Just in case.
At 11:30 am we took our first walk on the beach in front of Lahaina Shores. The ocean was warm and the sand was soft, with occasional bits of lava rock..not soft. We then spent the early afternoon on lawn chairs, reading, and relaxing watching the surf, the ships and all the beach activity.
Then at 2 pm we decided to go window shopping in Lahaina, Lahaina was out the lobby door to the left and ran for about 2 miles. There is an elementary school, a park with a huge banyan tree, a bakery, beach shops, art gallery shops, jewelry stores, restaurants, ice cream shops, coffee shops, and nice clothing stores...with historical sites mixed in along the way.
We ate dinner at Betty's Beach Cafe. A lot of the restaurants face the ocean and you have an ocean view while you eat. Betty's view was into the patio dining where the "Feast of Lele" was happening. (This was next door to our lodging, so every evening we could enjoy the music and singing). We watched the Polynesian dancing. It was quite a bonus, a pleasant surprise.
